Train Fever – OpenTTD meets SimCity 2013
If you ever played games on a Linux desktop, you are probably familiar with OpenTTD, the open source version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe (released in 1996). It is a good game, but it feels a bit dated. Last week, I stumbled on a crowdfunding campaign for a modern version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, called Train Fever.
Train Fever, currently in development, is a modern day Transport Tycoon focused on public transport. Starting in the year 1850, the game tells the history of public transport in the 19th and 20th century, and gives an exciting outlook into the future. The player is given the challenge of building up transport infrastructure to fulfill the cities’ and people’s needs.
The crowdfunding campaign for Train Fever uses shares, so if the game is going to be successful, you can even make a bit of profit. The creators expect a return on investment (ROI) of 165%. Additionally, if you invest 40 euro or more, you receive a copy of the final game for free.
