Happy Pi Day!
Most geeks know what I am talking about. It is 3.14 (month.day) today, so we commemorate the constant π and show the world how much fun science and math can be. Pi day was created in 1989 by Larry Shaw. He started the holiday at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where he worked, by eating fruit pies and discussing pi with colleagues.
Funny Pi day facts:
– On Pi Day 2004, Daniel Tammet recited 22,514 decimal digits of π.
– On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution (HRES 224), recognizing March 14, 2009, as National Pi Day.
– For Pi Day 2010, Google presented a Google Doodle celebrating the holiday, with the word Google laid over images of circles and pi symbols.
– There is also a π approximation day, which celebrates the fractal approximation of π: 22/7. This day is celebrated on 22 July
– The San Francisco Exploratorium still celebrates pi day every year
So, happy 3,1415926535897932384626433832795 day everyone!
